Here at Northtown Medical Centre, our team is committed to ensuring that you receive the best care possible, which is why all of our staff members are highly experienced in the medical environment.


Our highly experienced nurses work at the direction of the Doctors and will assist in providing comprehensive coordinated healthcare services.

Dr Rakesh Kaushal


Dr Rakesh Kaushal is the practice principle of Northtown Medical Centre. He graduated in 1982 from the prestigious AIIMS College in New Delhi, India. Dr Rakesh has been a medical doctor as part of the Indian Sports team in Asian Games and Olympics.


Dr Rakesh worked in Tully for 5 years before he moved to Townsville. He has now been in Townsville for over 15 years. He has special interest in General Medicine, Sports Medicine, Mental Health, Travel Medicine, Employment Medicals, Preventative Medicine, Minor Skin Procedure, Dermatology, Aged Care and Chronic Illness. 


Dr Rakesh enjoys teaching and training medical students and GP Registrars. He is also an examiner for Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) Exams.


Dr Rakesh is fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi.


Dr Ratna Shukla


Dr Ratna Shukla has been practising as a GP in Townsville for over 10 year.


Dr Shukla is fluent in English and Hindi.


Dr Navjot Arora


Dr Navjot (Nav) Arora graduated in 2011 in India. He moved to Australia, and started working at Northtown Medical Centre in 2015. The variety of medicine that general practice offers and the pleasure of getting to know and treat families across their lifecycle provides ongoing interest. He has special interest in Men's Health, Paediatrics, Aged Care, Sexual Health, Mental Health, Emergency Medicine, Chronic Illness and Skin Diseases including Minor Skin Surgeries.


Dr Nav is known to have an amiable nature with good sense of humor. Outside of work, he has interest in sports (especially cricket), dancing and politics. 


Dr Nav is fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.


Dr Sneha Kaushal



Dr Sneha Kaushal completed Medicine at James Cook University and attained a certificate of excellence in Womens health by RANZCOG in 2010. She also holds a professional certificate in skin cancer medicine.  She is passionate about primary prevention and evidence based medicine. Her particular interests include Skin cancer, Womens health, Mental health, and Minor procedures. She provides antenatal share care, Implanon insertion/removal  and contraceptive counselling. Prior to working in General practice, she has worked in various public and private cancer facilities across NSW and QLD. She has a published research in cancer care, undertaken advanced surgical anatomy courses, various national/international oncology conferences, held an Academic title of an Associate lecturer for 3 years, and has been involved in medical student/junior doctor training and examination.


Dr Sneha Kaushal is fluent in English and Hindi.

Dr Behnaz Pourasghar Tolombechi



Dr Behnaz is fluent in English, Azerbaijani, Persian and Turkish

Dr Alok Mitra is fluent in English, Hindi and Bengali.




Dr Zachary Smekel

MD (Doctor of Medicine)


Dr Smekel is a GP registrar at Northtown Medical Centre.



Dr Moet Moet Khine



Dr Moet is a GP registrar at Northtown Medical Centre.


She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from University of Medicine 2 Yangon, Myanmar and has been practising medicine for over 10 years.


She worked in Rehabilitation Medicine department for 5 years in Singapore and has completed a Diploma in Rehabilitation Medicine from Academy of Medicine, Singapore. 


She moved to Australia in 2018.


She has also achieved Australian Medical Council Certificate in 2019. She has worked in different specialities at Wide Bay Hospital and Sunshine Coast Hospital & Health Services for the last 2 years before joining the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) training program.


She also completed a Certificate through the Sydney Child Health Program.


She enjoys all aspects of General Practice with special interest in Internal medicine, Women’s Health, Rehabilitation Medicine (stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury & musculoskeletal disorder), Chronic disease management and preventative health care.


In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, keeping active and traveling.


Dr Moet is fluent in Burmese, English and basic Mandarin Chinese

Pauline Mason is our practice manager. She has been integral part of the team since 2006 and has helped develop Northtown Medical Centre into the great Medical Centre it is today.
